A retrospective of Goran Markovic

A retrospective of Goran Markovic

Yugoslav Film Archive organized from December 5 to 9 a retrospective which features an opus of a prominent Serbian writer-director Goran Markovic, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of filming of his debut film "Special Education".

The retrospective started with an exhibition of the film for which Marković says arose "from the protests of a group of young people to the way of life that was offered to them by the then reality," people who "did not fit the established models of punching through life."

"They all worked without a fee, have invested not only their talent but also livelihoods in this project. We risked everything, played to win. We only had faith that we are bringing people a whole new and fresh world. And we made it", Markovic wrote in the exhibition catalog for the jubilee of "Special Education" which includes a large number of black-and-white photos of the author Rodoljub Jovanovic including scenes from the set and the atmosphere at the end of the filming in 1976.

Markovic’s retrospective continues at the Museum of Yugoslav Film Archive in Kosovska Street, along with a set up of posters for his films.

The program includes films: "National Class" (1979), " All That Jack's" (1980), "Variola Vera" (1982), "Taiwan Canasta" (1985), "Deja vu" (1987), "The Meeting Point" (1989), "Tito and Me" (1992), " The Tragic Burlesque" (1995), " The Cordon" (2002), "Serbia, Year Zero" (2001), "The Tour" (2008) and "Falsifier" (2013 ).

Born in 1946 in Belgrade, from a family of famous actors Olivera and Rade Markovic, Goran Marković studied at the famous FAMU in Prague. He has received numerous awards at festivals in ex-Yugoslavia and worldwide.

During the 90s, he worked against the regime of Slobodan Milosevic, which is why the public media accused him of being a traitor. Today he is experiencing similar allegations once again from Pink and Informer tabloid, as he said in a recent interview with NIN, he is experiencing them as "messages from the bottom of the bottom’s bottom", to which he has already inured.
